Polaris

Polaris convince with their dynamic presentation. Their cabinet design reflects their sonic performance. The cabinet, which is tilted to adapt the acoustic sound sources to the listening position, is perched on a base cabinet containing the crossover network and mounted on stainless steel spheres. The loudspeaker drivers from Hiquphon and ScanSpeak impress with their excellent crossover with supreme quality Mundorf components. The instruments and voices sound dynamic, clear and with substantial physicality. The Polaris is an outstandingly accurate loudspeaker.

Music awaits your discovery!

The intelligence of a loudspeaker lies, apart from a few design details, in its crossover. Its task is to assign the individual loudspeaker drivers to the optimal range of application, to correct non-linearities and therefore to achieve authentic reproduction of the original signal. The crossover, whether active or passive, is a complex electronic unit with a great influence on the sound quality. The quality of its components has as great an influence on sound as in other upstream electronic components, such as amplifiers or source devices.

Even though it is hidden from our view inside the cabinet, we should not cut corners here. Therefore, we make the crossovers in a quality that is far beyond the norm. For example, Mundorf MResist ultra 3 resistors are used. The capacitors in the signal path are generally the MCap® SUPREME EVO ÖL. In the mid-range it is a copper foil coil and a MResist SUPREME. In the low frequency range of the bass speaker there is the top-acting copper foil paper coil MCoil VSCU12! Other components are also of high quality: MResist metal oxide resistors, air core coil, MCap® EVO and EVO ÖL.

The crossover is housed in a separate base cabinet, so it is well protected from microphonic effects affecting the sound. High-quality solid-core copper wires interconnect the components. The circuitry (with the exception of the bass coil) is mounted on a sturdy board with a layer of cork underneath and wired directly when possible. Bonding and vibration damping was done with butyl compound. MSolder SilverGold solder ensures excellent conductivity of the solder joints.

The picture shows the rear of the crossover cabinet with ETI binding posts and a rear metal bar with stainless steel balls. The front and rear stainless steel balls can be adjusted in height. This ensures a firm stand even on uneven floors and the angle of the baffle can be adjusted to ear height of the listener. The spheres (solid material) are not only acoustically good, they also do not require floor protection pads such as in a spike design. The speakers can therefore be positioned very easily.

Based on the design details and chassis selection, the crossover circuitry enables POLARIS' outstanding time response. The step/rectangle reproduction, which reveals elementary information about the conversion behavior of a loudspeaker, is unparalleled. (see "Step Response" & "Rectangular & Sine 1kHz")

A test of the conversion quality in the particularly critical area of the transition from midrange to treble yields the following result. (see "Sine 2kHz, 3kHz & 4kHz")

The POLARIS behaves exemplary. First and second half waves are clean sine waves with the same amplitude. Oscillation is minimal. This is how a loudspeaker should behave.

The POLARIS is a 2 1/2 way loudspeaker. Due to the parallel connection of the two woofers, the nominal impedance for the entire loudspeaker is 3 ohms. The impedance frequency response has basically a gentle curve and should therefore not present amplifiers with any major problems. (see "Impedance")
